About the role
Our client is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel to join its legal team on a 12-month fixed-term contract covering parental leave.
Working as part of a small, highly engaged legal team, you will enjoy exceptional breadth. Your work will span commercial and technology contracts, significant business transactions, disputes, privacy, IP, risk, public policy and regulatory matters. You will partner with senior stakeholders and teams across New Zealand, Australia and North America, providing pragmatic, commercially focused advice in a dynamic tech environmentThis role offers an excellent balance of autonomy and support, exposure to senior decision-makers and the opportunity to work on matters that have real impact. You will join a collaborative and professional culture where new ideas are welcomed, emerging technology is embraced and the legal team is closely connected to the strategic and commercial objectives of the business. What we’re looking for
· An experienced lawyer, ideally with 6–15 years+’ PQE, with the level and scope of the role tailored appropriately for appointment as Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel
· A current New Zealand legal practising certificate
· Strong commercial and technology contracting experience
· Excellent drafting, negotiation and commercial advisory skills
· A pragmatic and commercially minded approach to legal risk
· Confidence working autonomously and advising senior stakeholders
· A genuine affinity for technology and an AI-first mindset
· Strong judgement, adaptability and the ability to hit the ground running in a busy environment
